# Trust fields

Every evidence object carries a `trust` block. The fields are facts about the evidence, not a score: an agent or person decides what they need.

| Field | Values | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `authority_level` | `constitution`, `primary_legislation`, `local_legislation`, `regulation`, `court_of_last_resort`, `intermediate_appellate`, `trial_court`, `secondary` | How binding the authority is. For a proposition, the highest-ranked authority or court behind it on `as_of` that `establishes` or `supports` it |
| `source_type` | `official_code`, `official_legislature`, `official_reporter`, `court_website`, `government_agency`, `courtlistener`, `secondary` | Where the text was read: an official source if the object has one, otherwise its first source |
| `primary_source` | boolean | True when the text was read from an official publisher (code, legislature, official reporter, court or agency website) |
| `verified` | boolean | Every citation and quoted passage was checked against the named source on `verification_date` |
| `verification_date` | date or null | When that check was last done |
| `source_freshness` | date or null | The most recent date a source behind this object was retrieved |
| `temporal_status` | `current`, `historical`, `future`, `uncertain`, `timeless` | Relation to `as_of`: in effect, ended, not yet in effect (or a case decided after `as_of`), in a date range flagged as uncertain, or no dates at all |
| `conflict_status` | `none_known`, `limited`, `conflicting` | Whether another record narrows (`limits`) or contradicts (`conflicts_with`) this one |
| `human_review_status` | `pending`, `reviewed`, `disputed` | Whether the record has been reviewed. **The evidence records are `reviewed` as of 2026-10-25, for source and accuracy.** |
| `provenance_complete` | boolean | Every passage names a source record that exists, with a URL and retrieval date |

## Verified is not reviewed

`VERIFIED` and `verified: true` mean the text was checked against its source: the quotation is real, the citation is real, the dates are right. `human_review_status` records a separate review. As of 2026-10-25 the evidence records are `reviewed` for source and accuracy. A packet adds a `HUMAN_REVIEW_PENDING` limitation only when a record in it is still `pending`.

## How records are checked

Each record's `verification.methods` lists what was done, in plain words: which official page the passages were compared with, or why that comparison could not be made. Cases that could not be compared with an official source stay `UNVERIFIED_CANDIDATE`, even when the text looks right.

## Applicability

The full view also carries `applicability` for the requested date:

```json
{ "as_of": "2002-06-01", "applies": false, "temporal_status": "future", "reason": "Applies from 2003-09-14.", "status": "VERIFIED" }
```

A case decided after `as_of` still applies (courts read a law as it stood), but it is marked `future` and packets add a `DECIDED_AFTER_AS_OF` limitation.
